Voting Begins at Morgantown Area U.S. Cellular Stores for 8th Annual Black History Month Art Contest

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (Feb. 1, 2016) –U.S. Cellular and the Mountaineer Boys & Girls Club kicked off the 8th Annual Black History Month Art Contest, which honors the many contributions of African-Americans and encourages young people to learn more about these current and historic influencers in January.

During that time, Boys & Girls Club members were encouraged to research and learn more about African-American role models and their important contributions to society. They were invited to create and submit an original 8.5 x 11 portraits representing the figure of their choice using any art medium from any point in history, including present day.

From those drawings, the top 10 finalists’ entries were chosen from a panel from the Boys & Girls Club and will be displayed at local U.S. Cellular stores. The voting was slightly delayed due to weather and snow closures.  The public is invited to view and vote on the artwork from February 2-29, and the top three artists - as determined by the number of votes - will receive prizes.
