Voting Starts for U.S. Cellular's Black History Month Art Contests with Boys & Girls Clubs in the Mid-Atlantic

U.S. Cellular joined hundreds of students from Boys and Girls Clubs in Roanoke, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Virginia and Morgantown, West Virginia who were encouraged to create an original 8.5 x 11 piece of artwork in tribute of influential African Americans both past and present. They explored the accomplishments and contributions of these impactful figures as they researched their subjects. “We look forward to this event every year,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in the Mid-South, “It is incredible to see the amount of creativity that goes in to each entry. U.S. Cellular is committed to the enrichment and education of our youth here in our local communities. VOTING STARTS FOR U.S. CELLULAR'S BLACK HISTORY MONTH ART CONTEST                Residents Choose Winners by Voting for Their Favorite Portraits Created by Local Children in Feb. ROANOKE, Va. -- Voting has started for U.S. Cellular’s Black History Month Art Contest in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia.  Club members were encouraged to research and learn more about African-American role models and their important contributions to society.  And then create and submit an original 8.5 x 11 portrait representing the figure of their choice using any art medium from any point in history, including present day. The top 10 finalists’ entries were chosen by a panel from the Boys & Girls Club, and are displayed at local U.S. Cellular stores, where the public is invited to vote now through Feb. 28.
