Salem Super Fans Featured in U.S. Cellular “A Season of Tradition” Documentary

SALEM, Va. – People know better than to sit behind the student section at Salem High School football games. Not only are they excellently organized with seniors in the front and freshmen in the back, they stand, make noise, shoot silly string and use instruments to make even more noise. The Salem Super Fans have a long tradition of cheering on their team, and last month that tradition was immortalized in a documentary video as part of U.S. Cellular’s “A Season of Tradition” program.

“We are a tight-knit community here in Salem, and we love coming together for our team on Friday nights,” said Scott Habeeb, principal at Salem High School. “I am excited to see how this documentary inspires our players, students, faculty and city to rally around and support each other not only through athletics, but in everyday life.”

After learning of the Salem fan tradition, U.S. Cellular chose the school for one of its “A Season of Tradition” documentary videos. As a company that is committed to bringing communities together, it created the program to showcase and celebrate the schools and fans who come together to support the players in their local communities. Additional high school football programs in Clintonville, Wis., and Midwest City, Okla., are also being featured in documentaries as part of the program.

“The Salem high school student section tradition began many years ago, and as soon as we heard about how much fun the students have and how organized they are, we knew we wanted to feature the school in our program,” said Bertram Daniels, area sales manager for U.S. Cellular in Virginia. “At U.S. Cellular, we strive to be a part of the local communities where we live, work and play, and we look forward to following the rest of the Spartan season.”

In addition to the documentary, U.S. Cellular provided the school with a “Salem Super Fans” banner that will be placed in front of the student section at each game. For the documentary, U.S. Cellular’s crew traveled throughout the city and interviewed coaches, students, alumni and fans of Salem High School.
