U.S. CELLULAR, MAYOR JIM MANILLA ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS OF THE FOURTH ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH ART CONTEST
South Middle School Student Wins First Place, Second Year in a Row

MORGANTOWN (March 14, 2013) –Mayor Jim Manilla joined U.S. Cellular and the Mountaineer Boys & Girls Club to announce the winners of the carrier’s fourth Annual Black History Month Art Contest at the Boys & Girls Club at 300 Court Street.
“This contest is a great way for area children to get excited about our diversity,” said Mayor Manilla. “I am happy to be part of this year’s celebration and am delighted to announce the winners.”
During the month of February, club members were invited to select an influential African- American and develop his or her likeness into an original 8.5 x 11 portrait using any art medium. The top 10 finalists’ entries were on display during February at area U.S. Cellular stores where the public voted for their favorites.
The winners are:



• First Place – Miah Kaehler from South Middle School in Morgantown won a $500 gift certificate for a portrait of Billie Holiday.



• Second Place – Jaheim Felton from Woodburn Elementary School in Morgantown won a $200 gift certificate for a portrait of Usher.



• Third Place– Camden Fitzgerald from Mt. View Elementary School in Morgantown won a $150 gift certificate for a portrait of Michael Jackson.

“We believe in partnering with the community to celebrate our county’s rich culture, heritage and diversity,” says Linda Click, area sales manager for U.S. Cellular, “We are so impressed by the amazing portraits the children create every year.”

In the past four years hundreds of club members have participated in the contest and the competition gets tougher every year. Last year’s first place winner was also Miah Kaehler from South Middle School in Morgantown who won for her portrait of first lady Michelle Obama.
